Weekend Anchor/Reporter
Lexington, KY
Shelby Lofton

Shelby Lofton joined the WKYT team in July 2019 as a multimedia reporter. She’s brand new to the Lexington area, having come straight from Columbia, Missouri, where she attended the University of Missouri. She graduated Cum Laude with degrees in Spanish and Broadcast Journalism.

While attending the Missouri School of Journalism, Shelby worked at KOMU-TV, the NBC affiliate in Columbia, Missouri. She started as a production assistant during her freshman year, and worked her way up to anchoring and reporting. Shelby also worked at Newsy, a digital-focused, national news organization, where she was part of the Newsy Briefs team. She was fortunate to try out a lot of jobs behind the camera in college, but reporting is where her heart is.

Shelby was born in raised in Los Angeles, California, where her family and dog, Nutmeg, live. She grew up taking road trips up the west coast to visit extended family in Washington state. She loves traveling and has visited 10 countries and some of the Caribbean islands. She also speaks Spanish, and loves to practice conversation as much as possible!

When she’s not in the newsroom or out reporting in the field, Shelby enjoys catching up on true crime documentaries, listening to podcasts, dining at different hotspots, cheering on Mizzou sports and taking drives around the beautiful Bluegrass.

Don’t hesitate to reach out with story ideas. She’s all ears!
